DHS tennis has good showing at Brackenridge tournament

This tournament gave our kids some good competition to help us prepare for District and Regional opponents. Most of the schools were 5A and 6A. They also had to deal with rain delays and shortened matches due to the inclement weather.
Girls Singles:
Lindsey Spannagel beat N. Galvan (Laredo Martin) 6-1, 6-0 and lost to Pasco (Shadow Creek, Houston) 4-6,4-6.
Chloe Serafin lost to C. Perez (Hutto HS) 0-6, 0-6, (consolation matches were canceled due to weather).
Boys Singles:
Ralph Rios beat D. Kosiorek (La Vernia) 6-2, 6-3 and lost to S. Leija (Laredo United South) in split sets, 1-6, 6-4 (3-10 tie breaker).
Norbert Gogan lost K. Tellez (LaVernia) 6-3, 4-6, (5-10), M. Rabbitt (Alvin) 6-8.
Boys Doubles:
Toby Ramos/Jake Harrell beat Gutierrez/Vides (Laredo Martin) 6-0, 6-0, beat Cairo/Riley (Central Catholic) 7-6 (7-5) 6-1 and lost to Rolleque/Cloer (Marshall) 1-6, 0-6.
Mason Zenon/Caeden Alvarez lost to Grandflor/Sape (Manvel) 0-6,1-6, beat Gomez/Miller (Miller) 8-2 but did not continue to play due to weather conditions.
Girls Doubles:
Lydia Zapata/Scarlett Smith lost in the semi-finals to the 2nd place team from Marshall, beat Demarco/Srut in a tie breaker for the match. They won the first set 7-5, lost the 2nd set 4-6, and won the tie breaker 10-6. Then beat the team of Hinojosa/Bentley (Laredo United South) 6-3, 6-2, Dominguez/Valdez of Somerset 8-3. Zapata/Smith lost their semi-finals match to Martin/Vasquez (Marshall) 2-8.
Girls doubles did not get to play for 3rd place.
Ariel Lopez/Preslee Quisenberry lost in the semi-finals to the 1st place team from LaVernia.
Lopez/Quinsenberry beat Lina/Murielle (Shadow Creek) 6-0, 6-3, Brown/Flores (Marshall) 9-8 (7-2). They lost to Peters/Beyer (LaVernia) 0-8. Lopez/Quisenberry did a great job considering this was their first tournament for the season.
Mixed Doubles:
Abbie Capps/Jaime Garza teamed up to beat Martinez/Branhoffe (ShadowCreek) 6-0, 6-0.
Fernandez/Watkins (Alvin) 6-1, 6-0, Hernandez/Garza (Laredo United South) 8-1. Capps/Garza lost a very close semi-finals match to Lucas/Terry from Brackenridge 7-9. Both played an exceptional match. The inclement weather forced us to play shortened and rushed matches. Had this match been finished in 2 out of 3 sets, we might have won, as Capps/Garza are both fighters.
Julia Harrell/Tristan Woods were able to win 1st place. They beat Jara/Jacob (Shadow Creek) 6-3, 6-1, Kaiser/Harmanso (Alvin) 6-3, 6-2, Gonzales/Arizola (Laredo United South) 8-0, Vasquez/Blanquiz (Harlandale) 8-6, Lucas /Terry (Brackenridge) 8-6. Harrell/Woods played very well together to win 1st place in mixed doubles.
