DHS Robotics advances in state-wide competition

The DHS Robotics team recently competed, and some team members advanced to the BEST State Competition in Frisco, Tx, Nov. 29-Dec. 1. Devine’s Robotics team participated at the UIL Robotics at St. Mary’s University on October 27- 28. They missed the UIL state qualification by a hair, but qualified for a different state competition.
They will be advancing to the Texas BEST Robotics State competition in Frisco, TX on November 29-December 1. Team members include Drake Brown, Jacob Brown, Krista Davis, Chris Esquibel, Garrett Fritz, Sebastian Garza, Logan Gonzales, Taylor Holman, Corbin Lindner, Cameron Lyle, Dakota Mann, Mike Meek, Nolan O’Neal, Derek Sansom, Brooke Schott, Travis Simons, Kyle Simpkins, Derek Weinstrom, and Emiliano Yracheta. The team is coached by Jim Wilcox.
Other UIL events
Devine High School participated in the UIL meet at Medina Valley on November 3rd. Halle Hagdorn placed 3rd in Prose and Paige Williamson 7th. Also Scarlett Smith placed 1st in Lincoln-Douglas debate (value debate), 3rd in Persuasive Speech, and was the Top Speaker.
They also participated at the UIL Regional Congress on November 8th in Devine. Scarlett Smith placed 4th and was alternate to state in debate. Others participating were Michael Meek, Corwin Flores, Anca Tonciu, and Logan Gonzalez.
