Devine ISD hands out hotspots, Chromebooks

Devine ISD Superintendent Dr. Todd Grandjean released the follow letter on Friday, May 1.

Devine ISD has made it our number one priority to ensure the safety and well being of our families during the COVID-19 Pandemic; however, we know that supplying our students with the tools they need to engage in distance learning is also important.

Along with providing food service and instruction, Devine ISD campuses have begun to deploy essential technology to those who need it.

Principals asked families who picked up paper packets how we might help meet their technological needs, and, to date, we’ve been able to provide access to technology for every family that responded. 106 wireless hotspots, 93 Chromebooks, and 10 iPads have been signed out to Devine ISD students with the greatest need. It is anticipated that 40 more hotspots and 38 more Chromebooks will be signed out over the coming days as parents who are scheduled to sign them out are available to obtain them. We are also supplying these to teachers that may have difficulties with internet services or device needs.

In addition, DISD is working to set up parking lot hotspots at both Ciavarra Elementary School and Devine Intermediate School. These will be available for students, parents, families, and the community-at-large to use as soon as possible.

If your student is in need of access to the internet and/or a device, please contact his or her campus between the hours of 8 a.m. and noon to have your student’s name placed on the list. Please have patience if you are placed on a temporary waiting list. We are working every day to acquire more hot spots and devices, and once devices have been provided to students with the highest need, we will distribute them on a first-come-first-served basis. For the safety of our students, families, teachers, administrators, and staff, it is the goal of the district to provide access to the Google platform for every student who needs it; we are actively striving to eliminate the need for paper packets.

The Devine ISD Leadership Team sincerely appreciates the hard work of students, parents, teachers, and staff, and we are here to support you.
