Beer run thwarted

Our officers handled 50 calls for service and conducted 62 traffic stops. The traffic stops resulted in citations on 34 of the stops while warnings were given on the remaining 28.
We had a couple arrests this past week. The most interesting occurred at the H.E.B. C-Store. Three suspects opted to conduct a “beer run” and one of them got detained by a couple customers. They held him down until Ofc. Joey Guzman arrived. While Ofc. Guzman was placing him into custody he located some weed on the fellow too. I guess he didn’t trust his fellow thieves enough to leave his weed in the vehicle. So he was cited for the theft and went to jail on the marijuana charge. While I don’t officially advocate citizens intervening in minor thefts it was nice that this fellow got caught. The other arrest was result of a domestic violence incident Lt. Dear investigated. He obtained a warrant and the suspect turned himself in, which is always better than having to hunt somebody down.
Other than the “beer run” we didn’t have a single property crime reported this past week! It makes for a nice town but a boring weekly update.
Captain Reyes and I spent several days last week in Galveston attending the annual Texas Police Chief’s Association Conference. The speakers were awesome and the topics were very timely. The expo included about 200 vendors, of course there was a lot of technology related vendors. This “tech” stuff moves fast, I don’t see how you are supposed to keep up. No trip to Galveston would be complete without a visit to Gaido’s for some fresh seafood, we had a great dinner but I believe we spent our entire meal allowance for the conference in “one shot.” We were able to network with chiefs and command staffs from all across Texas. As a bonus we were able to see the Pleasanton Police Dept. receive recognition for attaining the status of Recognized Agency by the TX Police Chiefs Assoc. That is a great accomplishment. What better time to bestow upon Chief Ronald Sanchez another high award – “The Chief Richey Priest Seal of Approval.”
