Last week officers completed 47 calls for service and conducted 12 traffic stops (7 citations and 5 warnings). We were running a little light around the PD with one officer on light duty, one on vacation, and our administrative professional was on vacation too!
We took 3 theft reports this past week. A firearm was reported missing from a vehicle on Magnolia St. The theft may or may not have occurred here. A resident on FM 2790 N. reported his motorcycle was missing. It was valued at $3,500. To finish off the trio the new Sprint Store inside H.E.B. Plus reported an internal/employee (ex-employee now I would guess) theft of a couple of cell phones.
Summertime vandals struck at the park and spray painted on the concession stand. I’m not sure how that could be fun or fulfilling, especially with the cost of spray paint these days. Fortunately our City Parks guy, Wayne Newman, got right on it and painted over it.
We had two arrests this past week. The first was a felony domestic violence case for an assault that occurred at the Days Inn. A 50 year old female was arrested and booked into the Atascosa Co. Jail. T
The second arrest was a bit “sadder” I will admit. Lt. Dear stopped a vehicle on Father’s Day for an expired registration. The driver was the subject of a domestic violence protection order. He had his three children with him. The problem is that the order prevented him from having contact with them. He had the mother’s permission but that still doesn’t invalidate the order. Violations of protection orders are one of the very few instances where peace officers do not have discretion as to not making an arrest. The mother picked up the kids and he was booked into jail. He knew better, but I still feel sad for the kids. This is a rare glimpse into my softer side since I’ m usually portrayed as a hardnosed, tough on crime, kind of guy.
Now on to something more uplifting like our annual 4th of July Fireworks Show at John Lott Park. There is just something about small aerial explosions and free hot dogs that make us proud to be Americans. Plan to bring out the whole family, the event kicks off at 7 PM and the fireworks start at 9:30 PM. This is really a super nice event that is very well attended, you won’t be disappointed. If you are disappointed feel free to complain to our Mayor, just don’t tell him you got the idea from me.
