Dora Gallegos Dodds, of Mico, Texas passed away on May 15, 2026, from cancer. Her final days were spent peacefully at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House, with her family.Dora was born on August 18, 1942, in Devine, Texas and led an adventurous life that included joining the United States Air Force after she graduated from Carrizo Springs High School in 1962. She served for two and half years and was honorably discharged. It was in the Air Force that she met her future husband James F. (Frank) Dodds. They were married on July 17, 1965, at Lackland Air Force Base. After they were married, Dora worked in banking using skills she acquired in the Air Force. An assignment to Germany, meant Frank, Dora and Debbie had the opportunity to travel all over Western Europe and she always remembered those experiences fondly. Once they settled in Live Oak, Texas, Dora worked for MWR at Randolph Air Force Base while taking care of her family. She was active in the PTA and a co-Girl Scout Troop leader. She spent many weekends driving Deena all over Central Texas for softball games and tournaments. She loved being a grandmother to Jason. She was very involved in his life traveling often to North Carolina to attend special occasions and school functions when he was younger, and attending more school functions, baseball games, and marching band performances here in Texas when he was older. She loved to cook and sew and garden. Her homemade meals, handsewn Halloween costumes, and her incredible green thumb that resulted in many beautiful flowers will be fondly remembered.She is survived by, her daughters Debra (Debbie) Dodds (Ross Perry), Deena Dodds, and her grandson Jason Perry. She was preceded in death by her husband James F. Dodds, her mother Carlota Jaramillo Gallegos, her father Salome Gallegos, her brothers Joe Gallegos, Robert Gallegos, Willie Gallegos, and Johnny Gallegos, and her sisters Ann Gallegos and Mary Lou Rodriguez.Known for her strong, spirited personality, her fierce love for her family, her love of nature, and her steadfast faith, Dora will be dearly missed by all who knew her.Visitation will be held at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218, on June 9, 2026, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218, on June 10, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Committal Service with Military Honors will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter 3, 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209, on June 10, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 2:50 pm.
