Federico “Fred” Huizar Ojeda Jr., beloved father, grandfather, brother, musician, and dear friend, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the age of 88. He was born in the small town of Buena Vista in San Antonio, Texas, on August 24, 1937, to Victoria Huizar Ojeda and Federico Ojeda Sr.
He lived a life centered around the things he loved most – his family, his music, and the traditions that shaped who he was. To those who knew him best, he was more than a talented musician; he was the heart of every gathering, the storyteller in the room, the laughter among family, and the familiar sound of music that brought everyone together.
In his younger years, Fred became well known throughout the Tejano and Conjunto music community for his incredible talent as a bajo sexto player and his golden voice. Music came naturally to him, and it was a huge part of who he was.
Whether he was performing for a crowd, playing alongside friends, or simply singing with family nearby, he had a special way of making people feel connected. His music carried pride, tradition, emotion, and joy, leaving lasting memories for everyone fortunate enough to hear him play.
His greatest pride, however, was always his family. He loved deeply and wholeheartedly. Nothing meant more to him than being surrounded by those he loved. He treasured family gatherings filled with music, conversation, laughter, and backyard BBQs.
His children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces, nephews, and cousins were the center of his world; he carried immense love and pride for each of them throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Betty Ann, Rosemary, Victoria, and Valerie; and his sons, Fred III and Freddy. He is also survived by his beloved siblings, Evangelina Maria, Elvira Anita, and brother Rodger. In addition, he leaves behind numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, fellow musicians, and many others whose lives were touched by his kindness, humor, wisdom, and music.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victoria Huizar Ojeda and Federico Ojeda Sr., and his sisters, Maria Angelita, Carmen Viola, Elida Yolanda, and Gloria Esther. Though they left this world before him, their love and memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Those who loved him will remember his warm smile, strong spirit, incredible sense of humor, and the way he could bring people together through music.
He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.
His legacy will live on through the people who loved him and through the music that defined so much of his life.
May he rest in eternal peace.

Though we will miss him deeply, we are grateful for every song, every laugh, every story, and every moment shared with him. His spirit will continue to live on through the love of his family and all those blessed to know him.
