Booster dose sign-ups starting Monday in Medina County

Medina County’s active COVID-19 case count for September 27 is 250. Sadly, we had 7 more deaths from COVID-19 reported last week. If you haven’t been vaccinated, please get your shot, it’s free and widely available. The Health Unit currently has Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.
Booster Doses: Booster doses for Pfizer will be available at the Health Unit. Sign-up online starting next Monday, 10/4/2021 at vaccine.medinatx.org.
Please go to the online registration portal to set up a date and time for your shot. We will try to set up locations around the county, so be sure to verify the location you are signing up for. For any first dose COVID-19 vaccines, walk-ins are still available. Also, you can check with your local HEB, Walmart, local pharmacy, or your provider for vaccine availability.
Who qualifies for Booster doses at this time?

* CDC recommends that the following groups should receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 Vaccine at least 6 months after completing their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series (i.e., the first 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine):
* people aged 65 years and older
* residents aged 18 years and older in long-term care settings
* people aged 50-64 years with underlying medical conditions<https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/need-extra-precautions/people-with-medical-conditions.html> (see CDC COVID-19 website for more information)
* CDC also recommends that the following groups may receive a booster shot of Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 Vaccine at least 6 months after completing their Pfizer-BioNTech primary series, based on their benefits and risks:

* people aged 18-64 years are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of the occupational or institutional setting
* These recommendations only apply to people who previously received a Pfizer-BioNTech primary series (i.e., the first 2 doses of a COVID-19 vaccine).
* People can talk to their healthcare provider about whether getting a Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shot is appropriate for them.
Flu information:
The Health Unit will not be giving private flu vaccines but will have flu vaccines for uninsured adults coming soon. These doses should be available in mid-October, awaiting shipments from the State. We do have flu vaccines currently available for children who are uninsured or have Medicaid. Get your flu shot this season!
Covid Vaccines
Medina County Health Unit is open Monday through Thursday. COVID-19 vaccines for first-time persons are available from 7:30 am-11:30 am and 1 pm-5:30 pm on those days, walk-ins welcome. Sign up for Pfizer Booster doses at vaccine.medinatx.org. The Health Unit encourages everyone age 12 and older to get vaccinated; it is the best way to avoid severe illness, hospitalization, and death.
