The City of Devine is hosting their City-Wide Garage Sale/Yard Sale on one day only, Saturday October 21, 2023. On this day only, the permit fees will be waived by the City; therefore, no permit is required.
So, mark your calendars and get ready for the city-wide garage sale on Saturday October 21, 2023 and make sure to get your yard sale in the Devine News Classified Ad Section.

Texas Watershed Steward Workshop in Castroville Nov. 9th

On November 9th, the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a free Texas Watershed Steward workshop in Castroville. Water quality related to the Medina River, along with land and watershed management, will be discussed. Topics will include water quality, water quality law, agricultural and urban best management practices, hydrology, and others. The event and its available continuing education credits are free and open to the public. Pre-registration link provided below.
The professional continuing education credits offered are applicable to, but are not limited to, Texas Department of Agriculture private pesticide license holders (3 general CEUs), professional engineers, AICP certified planers, professional geoscientists, certified teachers, certified floodplain managers, certified crop advisors, and select TCEQ occupational license holders.
The Texas Watershed Steward workshop will take place from 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 9th at the Braden Keller Community Center, located at 1410 Amelia Street, Castroville, TX 78009. DEVINE CACTUS FESTIVAL3rd Annual – YOUTH ART EXHIBIT

The Devine Area Chamber of Commerce invites all School-age students of Devine to participate in the Devine Cactus Festival YOUTH ART EXHIBIT to be held on Nov. 4, 2023 in the Devine Community Center.
This year’s theme is “Deep in the Heart of Cactus”, which hopes to inspire local youth participation in the Arts in Devine’s largest community event.
There will be two divisions: Elementary (PreK-5th) and Secondary (grades 6-12). All artwork will be exhibit-only (no contests). *Informational fliers will be sent to the schools with more details. *Homeschool students can get fliers from the contacts below.
Visitors to the exhibit last year were wowed by the huge number of art displays from students of homeschools and Devine ISD! The beautiful artwork by such talented youth was a real highlight of the festival!
All art will be displayed throughout the Devine Community Center during the Festival along with Historical and Welcome Displays for all visitors to view & enjoy.

Friendship Art Club show

The Friendship Art Club gathered an enthusiastic group of artists, craftsmen and student artists to open the gates to Fall. Twenty-two booths and venders mingled with each other and a cheerful crowd. Food trucks provided Italian ice and homemade tortillas, while colorful artwork was displayed inside the Lytle Community Center Saturday morning.

Capital Highlights Week of Oct. 2 – 6Special session to begin on Oct. 9

Gov. Greg Abbott issued a letter to legislative leaders indicating a special session will begin on Oct. 9 dealing with what he has called “school choice” but is more widely known as vouchers.
The Austin American-Statesman reported Abbott has threatened another special session if lawmakers can’t come to an agreement this month, and then will take the issue to voters by finding candidates to run against those opposing vouchers.

Devine Mighty Warhorse band halftime show

Libertango • Oblivion • Beat It

A nostalgic beat, a roaring audience and high expectations for the Devine High School Mighty Warhorse Band 2023-24 halftime shows and competitions have begun.
Bert Sanchez, head band director said the marching band will open the show with “Libertango,” a piece by the Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla. It is an instrumental piece that merges the word “liberty” and “tango,” marking the beginning of new tango for Piazzolla.

Natalia Mustang High School Marching Band has debuted “Tears of Sorrow”

As younger band members step into the spotlight, the Natalia Mustang High School Marching Band has debuted their theme show, “Tears of Sorrow.”
Band Director Sergio Mendez said the marching band will open the show with “Uninvited,” a song by Alanis Morissette.
