Freedom Walk this Saturday

Join the Lytle VFW Post 12041 and Auxiliary and the City of Lytle for the 2023 Patriot Day Freedom Walk Remembrance at John Lott Municipal Park. The Freedom Walk will be this Saturday, September 9 at 10 AM, followed by a Remembrance Ceremony to honor victims of 9/11. It’s an all day event going on until 10:30 PM.
Enjoy hot dogs and chips provided by the VFW while supplies last. Bring the whole family and enjoy shopping local vendors, food trucks, games, music, face painting and more! There will also be lots of music!

Local Korean War Veteran selected for Honor Flight

Dear Veteran, “We are pleased to inform you that you have been selected to participate in our Honor Flight Austin #85 to see the war memorials that were built in your honor in Washington, D.C,” on September 8-9, 2023.
Chief Master Sergeant, USAF Ret. Steve Lopez of Devine, Tx was drafted into the US Army with the 1st Armored Division at Ft. Hood, Tx where he did his initial training. Pvt. 1st Class Lopez served in Korea in 1952 and 1953 with the 8th Army I Corp in the Armored Munitions Depot in Uijeongbu, South Korea. After returning from combat duty, he later served in the 149th Fighter Group, Civil Engineering Squadron, of the Air National Guard at Kelly AFB in San Antonio, Tx.

Warhorses vs Mustangs THIS FRIDAY for only 2nd time in history

For the first time in Devine High School football history, the Warhorses make the 5.8 mile trip to Natalia to take on the Mustangs Friday night. In 2022, Natalia made their first trip to Warhorse Stadium as the teams met for the first time in history.

Horses go hawg-wild in 45-0 victory!

Devine’s determined defense paved the way for the offense to get itself going in the second half as the Warhorses turned a slim 13-0 halftime lead into a 45-0 dismantling of Crystal City Friday night. The Javelinas had little success in moving the ball against a Warhorse defense that allowed only 27 yards rushing, picked off a pass, recovered a fumble, and gave up only three pass completions.
“It is always good to get a ‘W’ and I am proud of our guys,” stated Head Coach Paul Gomez after the lopsided victory.

Arabians to play District opener this Friday night in the DSAC

The Devine Arabian volleyball team definitely has had more than its fair share of grueling matches going into Friday night’s District 29-4A opener in the DSAC. Countless games against 5A and 6A schools as well as numerous other matches against perennial powers prepared Head Coach Leigh Anne McIver and her players for what lies ahead over the course of the 46 day stretch of district competition.

Lytle Pirates shoot down Rockets in SA

The Lytle Pirates were able to shoot down the Kennedy Rockets at Veterans Stadium last Friday night to string together their second straight victory to begin the season. Not only did this account for the second win, but it also surpassed last year’s win total which has Coach Mike Trevino, the Pirates and the Lytle faithful excited entering week three vs. West Campus.

Natalia offense sputters vs Bulldogs

The Natalia Mustangs dropped their second game of the season last Friday at home vs. a talented Marion Bulldog squad. Natalia showed improvements on both sides of the ball, but unfortunately their offense sputtered out and was unable to produce enough to be successful in a 28-6 loss. Natalia turns their attention to their neighbors, as Devine comes to town for a week 3 battle Friday Night at home.

Lady Pirates, Pirates compete @ FEAST

The Lytle Cross Country teams ran in the massive FEAST Cross Country Invitational last Saturday morning in San Antonio. The Lady Pirates placed 2nd in the 32-team varsity girls division with 181 points. Poth was the team champion with 103 points.
Running in both varsity boy divisions, the Pirates placed 7th in the 44-team open division and 8th in the 33-team 1A-4A division.

Arabians and Warhorses run @ FEAST XC Meet

Thirty-three teams and 312 participants in the varsity boys division and 32 teams and 271 competitors in the varsity girls division provided plenty of tight finishes and scoring races last Saturday in San Antonio at the FEAST Patriots Cross Country Invitational.
