Wilda “Willie” Vay Cochran Payne

Wilda “Willie” Vay Cochran Payne, of La Coste, passed away on August 8, 2019 at the age of 86 years. She was born April 25, 1933 in San Saba, Texas to Felix Jefferson Cochran and Elva Rice Cochran.
On October 5, 1954, Wilda married Jimmie Clark Payne in Brownwood, Texas. Wilda and Jimmie owned and operated Mechler’s Place for seventeen years. She also worked at Haby’s Bakery for twenty-three years.
Survivors include her husband of sixty-four years, Jimmie Payne of La Coste; sons and daughters-in-law, Jody and Joallen Payne of Harper, Mark and Carolyn Payne of La Coste; daughter and son-in-law, Jaymie and Matt Moorman of Great Falls, Montana; grandchildren, Tiffany Payne Strother (Jon), Taylor Moorman Schultz, Lawson Moorman (Kelly), Clark Moorman, Brittany Hollis (Justin) and Cameron Payne (Ashley); great-grandchildren, Avery Strother, Gus Strother, Jack Schultz, Raleigh Hollis, Layne Hollis and “one on the way.”
Wilda was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Jo Ann Cochran, Glenda Payne and Neva Scaff; brothers, Felix Cochran, Jr., Bill Cochran and Charles Cochran.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 11, 2019 starting at 5:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 6:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Monday, August 12, 2019 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Cemetery in La Coste, Texas.
Memorials may be made in Wilda’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
