Devine’s Warhorse Cross Country team competed in the Owl Invitational last Saturday at Hondo Golf Course. Junior Xavier Garza led the Horses finishing 19th of 77 runners. Xavier’s 17:23 was one of only 17 times recorded in under 18 minutes in the entire field.
Junior Zachary Alvarez placed 44th (19:51) and freshman Rylan Mata placed 46th (19:53) to crack the top 50. Matthew Madrid (53rd-20:52), Michael Reichel (56th-21:02), Marcus Espinosa (58th-22:56), and Ryan Leal (64th-22:56) rounded out Devine’s scoring.
Overall, the key thing is most of our times improved from the last time out two weeks ago in Pearsall. Xavier continues to pace the team while the rest of the team is making gradual strides of improvement.
Team results: 1st Eagle Pass 34, 2nd Antonian College Prep 47, 3rd Medina Valley 47, 4th Lytle 69, 5th Hondo 120, 6th Devine 172, 7th Brackettville 183, 8th Sabinal 239.
