Arabian XC places 3rd in Hondo Invitational

The Devine Arabian team captured third place in a very competitive field at the Hondo Invitational last Saturday at the city’s golf course. Class 5A Eagle Pass who normally run 5K races, won the top spot with a ridiculous 21 points followed by private school Antonian College Prep who had 76. The Arabians finished one spot and one point behind the runner up with 77 points.
I am extremely proud of the competitiveness our whole team displayed. Eagle Pass usually runs and practices for 3-mile races so for them to run away with the championship was no surprise.
I truly only worry about how our runners run compared to their previous meet’s result. Each of the six that ran this past weekend showed vast improvement since the last time we ran in Pearsall two weeks ago.
Bri Bowyer bettered her time by :35 seconds while Brooke Runyan shaved :45 seconds off her previous race. Audrey Longoria (-1:01), Yessika Garza (-:27), Kelli Geyer (-1:03), and Brianna Bernal (-:20) also made tremendous strides. Hard work pays off.
I am anxious to see how we perform at Bandera. The girls and I are both excited to see what improvements are accomplished next time out.
Team results: 1st Eagle Pass 34, 2nd Antonian College Prep 76, 3rd Devine 77, 4th Medina Valley 135, 5th Dilley 137, 6th Pearsall 145, 7th Brackettville 146, 8th Hondo 176, 9th Sabinal 243.
Up next: All Cross Country teams compete in Bandera Saturday, September 14 beginning at 9:00am with the varsity girls.
