Warhorse Marching Band to perform Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2:30 pm in Hondo at UIL Region Contest

DW Marching Band 2021-This year’s show is entitled “Finding Unity” and includes music from Gilroy productions titled “Tribal Echoes”. Devine will perform this Saturday, October 16 on Barry Field in Hondo ISD at 2:30 p.m. with hopes of advancing to UIL Area Marching Contest in Corpus Christi on October 30.
They will also perform their full show during halftime of the Devine vs Hondo football game on Friday night in Hondo.
The show is in three parts: Part One “Restoring Hope”, Part Two “Finding Inner Peace” featuring trumpet soloist Brian Schaefer, and Part Three “Defending Heritage/Honoring Tradition”.
This show depicts the ageless battles of life in my opinion, and takes the listener through stages of how battles are approached, reflected upon, and learned from in a way which honors tradition and heritage of one’s culture.
The music has a wide range of energy and colors and is visually interesting thanks to a solid design by our long-time drill writer and choreographer Richard Lopez.
The selection also has offered the unique opportunity to feature our senior 1st Chair 4A All-State trumpet player Brian Schaefer on a solo which he was recently recognized for an Outstanding Performance at the Hill Country Marching Festival!
All of this is in preparation for UIL Region Marching Contest on Saturday October 16th in Hondo at 2:30 p.m.- where we also hope to qualify to advance to the Area UIL Contest in Corpus Christi on October 30th.
Devine Band wins 2nd at Harlandale, Best Color Guard
A few weeks ago the Warhorse Marching Band enjoyed a successful Pre-UIL contest at the Harlandale Marching Festival! The Band earned 2nd Place Overall in the 4A caption, second only to Fredericksburg.
The Color Guard however took 1st Place in Caption which continues the high performance standard with Mrs. Sharie Miller coordinating as well as seasoned Color Guard Officers Riley Hagdorn and Corinne Fowler.
” It was a great performance and definitely one notch higher overall for the entire Warhorse Band!,” said Jeff W. Miller, BME, MM, Director of Bands, Devine ISD.
“This contest also awarded “UIL” style ratings, and the Band earned a Division One!!”
” Now we will continue to prepare with fortunately few affected by grades as we move toward UIL Region Marching Contest on Saturday October 16th. Our performance time at the Hondo stadium will be 2:30 pm – so please come out and cheer for the Warhorse Band!”
