Warhorse Band wins Best 4A Band

This past Saturday the DHS Warhorse Band performed at an all-time high level at our first Pre-UIL Marching Band Festival!

The Band competed in the Hill Country Marching Festival in Fredericksburg in the 4A category.  A total of five judges evaluated the group in Marching, Music, Color Guard/Drum Major, Percussion.  The 4A Bands present included:  Bandera, Llano, Devine, Boerne, and Hondo.  At the end of these festivals, the Drum Majors & Captains from all participating schools (1A-6A) line up on the sideline and the Awards are given – and this year yielded stunning results!!  Here are the Awards earned by the 2018 Warhorse Band:
1st Place 4A Color Guard
1st Place 4A Percussion (Front Ensemble & Drumline)
1st Place 4A Music
1st Place 4A Marching
1st Place Overall 4A Band
Needless to say our students, parents, families, and the staff celebrated an amazing set of results!!  Here are a few judge’s comments:  “Good moments today Band! Well Done on many levels!!” – Mr. Gamez. “Very musical performance!!” – Mr. Howard.  “Band makes a nice sound!!”  “Good drill!!”– Mr. Gan.
Just to cap off a really fun day, we returned to Devine at around 10:15 pm to find ourselves escorted through town by the Devine Fire and Police Departments and the streets had many of our supporters cheering for the kids!!  What an awesome community we live in!!  This Saturday the Warhorse Band will compete in the Harlandale Marching Festival at 12:00 Noon!  On Saturday October 13th is the UIL Region 11 Marching Contest in Hondo!!  This Friday October 5th we will hold a Community Performance at the DISD Stadium at 6:30 pm!!  I hope you all can come to one or all of these events!!  Please help to congratulate all the members of the Warhorse Band for such an excellent start for the 2018 contest season!! Accepting the trophies on the behalf of their sections were:  Charlize Benavidez, Color Guard 1st Lieutenant; Clarissa Maldonado, Head Drum Major; Laurel Spannagel, Assistant Drum Major; Andrea Sanchez, Drumline Section Leader; Pauline Calame, Front Ensemble Section Leader; and Alyssa Rodriguez, Color Guard Captain. In the 4A Band division: Devine won 1st overall, Boerne 2nd, Hondo 3rd, Llano 4th, and Bandera 5th. In 4A Devine also won Best Color Guard, Best Percussion (Front Ensemble and Drumline), Best Music, Best Marching as well as the Overall Best 4A Band scores.
