Varsity Warhorses compete in Navarro/Seguin Tournament

Over the weekend, the Varsity Warhorses went 2-2 against Southside, Seguin, SA Christian, and Veterans Memorial. Now with a 2-3 record, the Warhorses will compete in the South Texas Slug Fest March 5-7 and then the Bandera tournament March 12-14.
Facing Southside on Thursday, the Warhorses put bats to balls early in the first. Isaiah Oropeza opened the game with a double to center, Brady Miller singled, and Kannon Ramirez reached on a dropped strike and Oropeza scored. Darrin Lafferty singled to bring in two runs. Evan Priest sacrificed out. Clayton Brown reached on error and Lafferty scored. Inning ends 4-0. Bottom of the first is 3 up 3 down for Pitched Priest. Caden Hanson doubled followed by a doubled from Oropeza, Hanson scored. Miller lines out. Oropeza scores on a passed ball. K. Ramirez walks. Top of third, Camden White singles, Brown sacrifices, Mando Gutierrez singles, Hanson singles, White scores Devine up 7-0. Southside would get one run in the bottom of the 3rd. top of the 5th, 1 out, White on 3rd , Sage Cruz on 2nd, Hanson singles and White scores. Oropeza at bat, Hanson steals second and Cruz scores on same error, inning ends 9-1. Southside would earn 2 in the bottom of the fifth to end the game 9-3.

Friday against Seguin, the Warhorses had to come from behind to earn the win. Seguin took the lead in the bottom of the first at 0-4. But it was the next inning that Devine took the lead back. Lafferty and K. Ramirez walked, White struck out, Brown ground out, Gutierrez singled, and Lafferty scored. Hanson walked to load the bases. Oropeza singled to bring home two Warhorses and make the score 3-4. Miller walked with Hanson on 3rd and Oropeza on 2nd. Jacob Barron singled to left and Hanson and Oropeza scored to give Devine the 5-4 lead. Top of the 3rd, 2 outs, White is on 2nd and Gutierrez on first, Hanson singles and Whites scores on the throw. Oropeza singles and Gutierrez scores, Devine up 7-4. Seguin would score one more run in the bottom of the four but Devine won 7-5.

In their second game of the night Devine fell to SA Christian 1-11. Their one run came in the top of the second, with one out, Hanson on 1st, Hackebeil on 2nd, and Brown on 3rd, Oropeza ground out to first and Brown scored.
