Thelma Gallegos Barrios was born on January 26, 1949 in Devine, Texas. Thelma was called home to be with our dear Lord on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at the age of 72.
Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Antonio and Cristina Gallegos and her brother Rogelio Gallegos; and is survived by her loving husband of 17 years, Steven Barrios, and her three fur babies Ky, Timmy, and Buddy; siblings Alma (Roman DeLeon), Margie (Manuel Aguilar), sister-in-law Mercedes (Rogelio Gallegos); and numerous nieces and nephews, uncle, aunts, cousins, and friends and neighbors.
Thelma loved spending time at her cousins Ed and Elisa’s ranch in Devine, and other family members’ ranches. Elisa was not only her cousin but more like a sister.
Thelma worked for Edgewood School District from 1971-1983 at Gardendale Elementary School. Thelma had a big heart of gold that was always helping everyone. She was the life of the party; she always had a big smile on her face even when she was sick. Thelma enjoyed dancing, traveling, ceramic, and also caring for her neighbor’s dogs Marley, Daisy, and Sam, whom she treated as her own dogs.
Special thanks to her niece Esther Ybarra, who took special care of her to the very end. We will always cherish the special memories she left everyone. It’s not goodbye, it’s till we meet again.
Funeral services are Sunday, March 21, 2021 with a viewing from 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm with a Rosary at 6:00 pm at Castillo Funeral Home, located at 520 N. General McMullen, San Antonio, Texas, 78228.
Mass is Monday, March 22, 2021 and will depart at 10:15 am for an 11:00 am service at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church, located at 1730 Dahlgreen, San Antonio, Texas, 78237.
Interment will follow at San Fernando Cemetery #2, 746 Castroville Rd, San Antonio, Texas, 78237.
