Six Lady Mustangs set for State powerlifting meet

The Natalia Lady Mustangs took nine lifters two weeks ago to the Region 5 Powerlifting Meet in Robstown. Out of the nine that competed, six were able to qualify for the State Lift Meet which will be held this coming Friday, March 15th in Waco. Among the six Lady Mustangs who are state bound is senior regional champion Sam Sanchez who will help led the charge for the girls in blue.
“These girls are a great representation of what championship culture looks like,” Coach Kasey Crowther said. “We are excited to see how they match up against the best in the state.”
Sanchez enters the meet ranked 2nd in the state in her 97 lb. weight class. Sanchez who won regional, did so with a 640 lb. total which included a 135 lb. bench press, a 260 lb. squat and a 245 lb. dead lift.
Dezarae Perez claimed 2nd place at regional in her 165 lb. weight class with a 920 lb. total. Perez and Sanchez will be joined by Jasmine Ramon (3rd place at Regional-198 lb. wc with 930 lb. total), Meg Martinez-105 lb. wc (qualifying total of 635 lbs), Julia Owens- 105 lb. wc: (state qualifier with 625 lbs) and Gabby Santoya-165 lb. wc: (qualifying 825 lbs.)
The State Meet is this Friday in Waco and will begin at 8:00 a.m.
“We are looking forward to the meet and invite everyone to Waco to cheer on these hard working young ladies,” Crowther said.
