Rudy Solis, Sr., of Castroville, passed away on January 7, 2018 after a brief illness in San Antonio at the age of 84 years. He was born February 24, 1933 in Castroville, one of seven children born to Jesus G. Solis and Maria Hernandez Solis.
He proudly served his country for four years in U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. His duty was to drive for the General, taking him whenever and wherever he needed to go. In the early 1960’s, Rudy started working at the Gulf station in Castroville. Then in 1978 it became Rudy’s Gulf station. He opened El Charro Mexican Restaurant, now known as Margie’s, in 1981.He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, St. Louis Society, American Legion Weiss-Wurzbach Post 460, Woodmen Life #406, and Texas Truck and Tractor Puller’s Association.
Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus G. and Maria Hernandez Solis; his daughter, Teresa Ann Solis Butler; brothers, Jessie Solis, Joe Solis and David Solis and sister, Lucia Reyna.
Survivors include his children, Elsie Villarreal (Gerry Burell), Beatrice Hurtado, Rudy Solis, Jr. and Paula Solis; grandchildren, Shayne (Jolea) Butler, Maj. Valarie Solis (U.S. Army), Eric Solis, Justin (Chelsea) Hurtado, Teresa (Wesley Olivan) Solis, Matthew Hurtado and Marcelino Solis; great-grandchildren, Mason, Carson and Paislee Hurtado, Kairi and Xander Olivan and Lyla Butler; sisters, Helen (Steven) Gallegos and Johnnie (Gloria) Solis; his dog, Chiquita; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Garden Mausoleum.
