Pirates take down two more

With two more district games behind them, the Lytle Pirates are tied for 2nd with Natalia in district. Both teams sit at 5-1 behind 6-0 Jourdanton according to MaxPreps. They are 13-4 overall and will play at home against Cotulla on January 22nd and in Jourdanton on January 26th.
Facing Karnes City on January 12th, the boys had to work hard for their 50-40 win.
“With 18 lead changes in the game, it was a defensive battle from the tip off. With both teams battling on both sides of the ball, Karnes City took a 19-18 lead into the half. The Pirates had to turn up the full court press in the fourth quarter which lead to 10 steals and 8 points by the Pirates to help win the game down the stretch. Jordan Balderaz led the Pirates with 16 points and 12 rebounds to finish off the night. Matt Sanchez who hadn’t played since the holiday break due to an injury, hit two key three pointers in the fourth quarter to extend the lead and finished with 12 points off the bench. Senior Carson Aldridge had three key steals in the fourth quarter that ignited the 10-2 run in the final minutes for the win,” said Coach Jacob Hernandez.
When they played Poth on Friday, it was a different kind of game. Lytle controlled the ball from the start and won the game 92-49. This was their 5th district win and put Poth at 3-3 and in 4th place in district.
