Pirates Jose Cortez 2nd, Israel Andrade 9th at Devine XC Meet

Jose Cortez and Israel Andrade each finished amongst the top 10 in last Wednesday’s Devine Invitational. Cortez ran 17:55 to place second behind individual champion Kyle Whaley of San Antonio Christian who ran his three-miles in 17:06. Andrede placed 9th at 18:42.
As a team, the Pirates came in as runner-up to San Antonio Christian. Lytle tallied 56 points while team champion San Antonio Christian had 23 points. This was the team’s last meet prior to district competition.
Johnny Rey Alvarez placed 14th overall at 19:27.Brandon Obando placed 15th at 19:31.4 while coming in neck-and-neck with him was teammate Jared Aguinaga at 16th and a 19:31.9, a mere half-second difference.
Other Pirates taking to the course but not figuring in the team score were Abel Sanchez (18th-19:41) and Luke Estrada (28th-20:38).
The Pirates now shoot for their fourth consecutive district championship.
