Medina County’s active COVID-19 case count for 10/11 is 126 down from 169 one week and 2 additional COVID-19 related deaths were reported. The Medina County Health Unit continues to offer boosters doses of Pfizer and anyone else wanting a COVID-19 vaccine is encouraged to visit us during our walk-in hours. Additional doses of Pfizer or Moderna COVID vaccine are being offered for anyone who is immunocompromised. We currently have Pfizer and Moderna vaccine, Johnson & Johnson continues to be on backorder. You can sign-up online for Pfizer booster doses at vaccine.medinatx.org, some locations other than the Health Unit may be offered so check the location you are signing up for.
It’s ok to get your flu shot and the COVID vaccine at the same time or close together. We had a light flu season last year but being protected from flu is very important. Annual flu vaccination is recommended for all persons aged 6 months and older. Certain groups are at higher risk for influenza complications including infants aged 6 months and older and young children less than 5 years of age, children with neurologic conditions, pregnant people, adults aged 65 years and older, and other persons with underlying health conditions. COVID-19 is still circulating and the two combined could have more serious outcomes for people and more stress added to our health care systems. Flu shots are covered by most insurance companies and the COVID-19 vaccine is free right now. The Health Unit does not carry flu vaccines for insured persons, so check your local provider or pharmacy and get your flu and COVID vaccine.
