Pirates force 3 turnovers in hard-fought battle with Cole

Last Friday, the Pirate Football team took on the Cole Cougars in the fourth game of District Play.
After a hard-fought first half, the score was 15-7 heading into half time. “Offensively, Junior RB/LB Deven Caldera led the offense on the ground with 136 rushing yards on 27 carries. Junior DB/RB Albert Aguilar chipped in an additional 38 yards rushing on 8 carries. Up front, our offensive line of Jacob Guevara, Kasen Boyd, Elijiah Ramirez, Elias Hernandez and new starter Hector Anaya did a good job of opening holes for our ground game to flourish,” Coach Trevino said.
“Our defense showed significant improvement this past week, forcing three Cole turnovers, and flying to the ball from sideline to sideline. Defensive standouts include Junior DB/RB Albert Aguilar who had an incredible game, registering 16 Total Tackles (10 Solos, 6 Assists, 1 TFL), 1 Forced Fumble on a big hit and 1 Fumble Recovery. Albert has been a standout on our team this season and his performance has been stellar in all three phases of the game. Senior Josh Del Toro also had a spectacular game. Josh moved to the defensive line and responded with his best game of the season, registering 7 total tackles (all solos), 3 tackles for loss and 1 fumble recovery. Other standout performers include Senior C/LB Elias Hernandez (2 solos, 3 assists, 1 fumble recovery), Sophomore WR/LB Amadeus Trejo-Perez (2 solos, 3 assists, 1 Pass breakup), Sophomore OL/DT Mario Diaz (1 solo, 3 assists), Senior Kasen Boyd (2 Tackles, 1 TFL, 1 QB Sack) and Freshman DB/QB Luke Estrada (4 solo tackles).”
The Pirates continue to compete and fight hard to the end.
“Our younger players are developing into seasoned players and our Seniors continue to be a positive source of energy and leadership,” said Coach Trevino.
The final score was Cole 36, Lytle 7.
