Lytle’s JV Pirates ran away with the team championship at Devine Golf Club in last Wednesday’s Cross Country invitational. Lytle claimed four of the top five individual spots in scoring 20 points to runner-up Fox Tech’s 35 points.
Yandel Esquivez, Daniel Mercado, Donovan Cortez, and Faustino Ruiz all finished in the top five while Aiden Zimmerlie fell just out of the top 10 at 12th place.
Esquivez won individual gold running the three-mile race in 19:59 to beat silver medalist Landon Webb of San Antonio Christian who ran 20:43.
Mercard placed 3rd at 21:11, Cortez 4th at 21:25, and Ruiz 5th at 21:55. Zimmerlie’s 12th place finish was accomplished in 25:02.
Lady Pirates
The JV Lady Pirates placed third as a team behind champion Pleasanton who had 33 and runner-up YWLA who had 34. Hondo was fourth with 113 and Fox Tech placed 5th with 128 points.
Nivea Sanchez led the team with her 4th place 15:55 finish. Fatima Montes came in 8th at 16:19.
Rose Scotello (13th-17:24), Lia Corral (17th-18:21), and Alize Sanchez (25th-20:37) also competed.
The JV runs their final race of the season at district.
