Octoberfest all day this Saturday at St. Joseph’s in Devine

St. Joseph Church will host its annual Octoberfest this Saturday, October 5th on the church grounds.
Ernie Morales, Sr., Chairperson for this year’s event tells us that the event is free to the public and for the first time in several years will have a dance to close the night out.
New this year also is the convenience and ability to use debit and credit cards at all the booths.
BBQ Plates
The event begins at 11am Saturday with a Brisket BBQ plate sale which will be served for $8 – dine in or take out from 11:00 a.m. until 2pm. The usual drive up lane will be open again on College Avenue between the church and funeral home for those who prefer to pick up plates without having to get out of their vehicle.
Food and drinks
Food and drinks will be sold all day and night. Beer booth is back this year since the festival is on a Saturday. There will be food throughout the day such as sodas, drinks, snow cones, hamburgers, chopped brisket, quesadillas, and much more.
Games
Also starting at 11am will be games for the kids, novelty and food booths as well as local artists and crafters selling their work. A popular event from previous years is the Dunking Booth and it is back with a great line up of local personalities! New this year is the Pie Toss and chairperson for the event Brittany Obaya has lined up quite a bit of local personalities for that event as well.

Music All day
Live entertainment all day starting at 11:00 a.m. and ending at Midnight!
The day will be packed with great entertainment by local talent Adrian Reyes, Matt Hawk, Claude Butch Morgan, Zamar (aka The Colby Cashion Band) and Showtime with Steve Valdez.
Dance the night away with the popular band Los Tovares, a Tejano and Country Band who will take the stage from 8:00 p.m. to Midnight. According to their website LOS TOVARES (AKA The TOVAR Brothers) brings you a high-energy mix of Country, Tejano, Cumbia, R & B, 70’s, and a touch Rock! Check out the band, as they perform throughout San Antonio and beyond. The band routinely plays clubs, festivals, private parties/weddings, and conventions.
Band members are Frank Tovar lead vocals, Jose Macias on the Accordion, Steve Roth on the bass, Raymond Salinas on keyboard and Tony Cisneros on the guitar.
Bingo
A Bingo will start at 2pm inside the church hall and run until 6 pm. with lots of prizes and fellowship as always.
Silent Auction and Rifle Chance
Chairperson for the Silent Auction Cindy Morales has garnered some wonderful items up for bidding and will be set up for viewing under the pavilion. Try your luck with a deck of cards at $50 a chance, with the chance of winning a Remington Deer Rifle valued at $1,500! Only 52 chances (deck of cards) will be sold, buy them at the silent auction area.
Drawing $14,000 in prizes
Be sure to buy a $5.00 chance to win a riding lawnmower and trailer along with over $14,000 worth of prizes at the annual church drawing. The winners will be announced at 7:00 pm that evening – need not be present to win.
Live Auction Buck Hunt
Also new this year is the Live Auction of a Guided Management Whitetail Buck Hunt which will be auctioned off to the highest bidder along with other items during one of the band breaks in the evening.
The evening will close with the Tejano and Country Western band – Los Tovares who will be playing from 8pm – midnight. Bring your family and bring your lawn chair to this year’s Octoberfest!
Security
There will be security at each entrance and throughout the grounds all day and night. No outside food or drink will be allowed as well as alcohol. The temporary fencing is back up and will help keep the children safer.
