Navarro Panthers at Warhorse Stadium for Thursday evening scrimmage

Navarro comes to town Thursday evening to take on the Warhorses in each team’s second and final scrimmage of the two-a-day season. Head Coach Paul Gomez’s insight to what is in store for his Warhorse team.
“The Slot T requires defenses to be disciplined and aggressive every play. If you slack for one play it could go for a touchdown so that is what we have been emphasizing all week. We have defended this offense several times through the years and we know it will definitely be a tough challenge but a challenge we will definitely take head on. Our Defensive Coordinator George Villa along with defensive coaches PJ Wells, Heath Poppe, Evan Eads, and Devin Rotramel have been preparing our players well as we know we will definitely have our hands full versus Navarro’s ‘Slot T’ offense.
I love playing Navarro right before our first game because they come out and hit teams in the mouth. We will either be forced to fight back or we will give in; this is a great way to prepare for the season.
Navarro is not going to back down and neither are we so I expect a very competitive scrimmage that will definitely show what we are made of this year. Fans will see two hard-nosed teams go at it and it should be fun to watch.
Defensively, Navarro is in the 3-4 defense but they also play the 3-3 stack defense. Their multiple defenses will help us prepare for the regular season as well.”
Towels, please
Thursday is the annual “Towel” scrimmage where community members and businesses are asked to donate bath towels for the athletes. All size towels are needed so it does not matter if they are large, medium, or small but please make sure they are bath towels and not hand towels.
Coach Gomez expressed his thanks in advance as towels are very much in demand this time of the year.
Scrimmage times
Freshman play from 5pm-6pm, JV plays from 6pm-7pm, and the Varsity starts a little after 7pm.
