Roger Gus Verstuyft, of San Antonio, passed away in Castroville on August 20, 2019 at the age of 82 years, six days before his 83rd birthday. He was born August 26, 1936 in San Antonio, Texas to George G. Verstuyft and Irma Clara Van Overdenborger Verstuyft.
Roger graduated from South San High School in 1955. He was a life-long family farmer in South Texas.
On June 20, 1959, Roger married Patricia “Patsy” Frances Jungman at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste.Roger and Patsy were blessed with sixty years of marriage, three children, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Verstuyft of San Antonio; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jeff Cole of Castroville; sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Rita Verstuyft of Knippa and Douglas and Amanda Verstuyft of San Antonio; grandchildren, Troy Cole, Lauren Cole, Nathan (Mary) Verstuyft, Aaron (Meagan) Verstuyft, Zachary Verstuyft and Cyndal Verstuyft; great-grandchildren, Claire Verstuyft, Kinlei Verstuyft and Kayden Verstuyft; sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Kenneth Eisenhauer; sister-in-law, Merlynn Verstuyft as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irma Verstuyft; grandson, Sean Verstuyft; brother, Marvin Verstuyft; and in-laws, Margaret and Bernard Echtle, Marion and Betty Jungman.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 22, 2019 starting at 6:00 pm at St. Louis Catholic Church in Castroville, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, August 23, 2019 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in La Coste. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery in Castroville, Texas.
