Natalia ISD hired a High School Principal as well as an Executive Director of Finance at a Special Board Meeting on Monday, July 3, 2018. “Both individuals are of exceptional quality and come with glowing recommendations,” stated Superintendent Dr. Hensley Cone in a press release this Tuesday.
Dr. Andrea L Moreno Hewitt was hired to be the High School Principal to replace Dr. Jane Harris. Her first day on the job will be Monday, June 9, 2018. She comes to Natalia from Medina Valley ISD where she served in several positions over the past nine years. She served as the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education, Curriculum Director, Curriculum /Testing / Bilingual Coordinator, and also as the Vice-Principal in charge of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment at the High School. Before going to Medina Valley, she spent four years as an administrator at John H. Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. Dr. Andrea L Moreno Hewitt, welcome to the Natalia ISD team.
“We know great things will be happening at Natalia High School under your leadership,” Cone stated.
An Andrew Besa-Tiffany Rodriguez motion to hire Hewitt was approved 6-0. Board members Eric Smith, Gordon Gentry, Paul Almendarez, and Jack Bradley, Sr. also voted for the measure. Board member Fernando Garza was absent.
Paul Michels was hired to be the Executive Director of Finance to replace Barabara Flores. He will be transitioning to Natalia ISD soon. He is currently the Director of Finance at Waelder ISD and has been for the past two years. At Waelder, he was responsible for all aspects of the finance office to also include Transportation, Maintenance & Operations, and Food Services. Before going to Waelder, he spent eleven years as an administrator within a public charter school.
“We have no doubt that even with the financial struggles that loom around the state and in surrounding districts, he will help provide guidance, support, and expertise to keep Natalia ISD financially sound. Paul Michels, welcome to the Natalia ISD team,” Cone said.
A Rodriguez-Almendarez motion to hire Michels passed 6-0.
Former NHS principal Dr. Jane Harris retired, while former Business Manager Barbara Flores resigned to take a position with another district.
“We appreciate the dedication and commitment that both Dr. Harris and Ms. Flores gave to Natalia ISD. We are fortunate for the successes we experienced under their leadership,” Cone said. “We wish them the best.”
