Appraisal district applies budget surplus to HQ building fund

With two new members taking office, the Medina County Appraisal District board of directors voted Jan. 9 to apply the majority of a $114,000 budget surplus to the building fund for a proposed new headquarters building.
On a motion by board member Jody Jacobs, seconded by new vice chairperson Kyla Burrell, the board voted 4-0 to apply $84,000 of the surplus to the building fund.

Warhorse powerlifting season underway; De Leon, Reyes take silver

With the Christmas break in their rearview mirror, the Warhorse powerlifting team took to the hard-mats last Wednesday in Natalia for their first meet of the 2024 season.
Devine placed seventh overall with a few noteworthy individual accomplishments as well as Seth De Leon (165lb) and Israel Reyes (181lb) placed second in their respective weight divisions.

Mustang powerlifting going strong; E. Lopez wins gold, A. Lopez takes silver in home meet

Get ready to save some gas money as Paul Gomez, Devine High School Head Powerlifting Coach, and his Warhorse and Arabian lifters make several short trips over to Natalia this 2024 season in hopes of earning multiple invitations to Regional and State meets at the conclusion of their competitions.
The Warhorses are in full swing with last Wednesday’s meet results already in the books. The Arabians get their first grunts and groans today, January 17.

We are pleased to announce The DEVINE VOLUNTEER FIRE & RESCUE DEPT’S largest Chili Cook-off, Flame Grilled Heroes, at Devine Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department – Devine Texas! The Great Preparation

The big freeze we’ve been expecting hasn’t hit yet, but I expect by the time we start pasting this newspaper together, my teeth will be chattering plenty fast. One thing is for sure. When the weatherman said “artic blast” I made sure to ask my husband to start getting some firewood ready. We were stuck without any dry firewood when the great “snowpocalypse” happened, and I kicked myself about that for days. I am willing to bet we are all a little better prepared this year than we were that awful year.
