Judith Ann Nordmeyer

Judith Ann Nordmeyer, née Heckmann, of Castroville, Texas, was called to her eternal home in Heaven on 11 April 2026, at the age of 79.
Born on 25 November 1946 in Fort Worth, Texas, Judy was the child of Rev. Paul W. Heckmann and Bernadine Emma Heckmann, née Zabel. She was baptized into the Christian faith by her father on 8 December 1946 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Worth. She was confirmed in her faith on 5 June 1961 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Odessa, Texas, also by her father. Judy lived her life for Christ, as expressed in her confirmation verse: “and He died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for Him who for their sake died and was raised” (2 Corinthians 5:15).
Judy graduated with a degree in education from Concordia University, Nebraska. She taught early elementary at Lutheran schools, was a secretary/church secretary, and was a church organist. She was introduced to Herb Nordmeyer by her uncle, Rev. Dr. Carl A. Heckmann, who later presided at their marriage on 28 April 1979 at Hope Lutheran Church in Austin, Texas.
A devoted member of a number of LCMS churches throughout her life, Judy called Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Devine, Texas, her church home for nearly ten years. She was an avid and talented organist. She began playing the organ while she was in high school, and she continued to play at both Divine Savior and at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in San Antonio well into her 70’s. She also sang in church choirs and the San Antonio Chorale at various times in her life. Judy was known for her love for the Lord, her love of music, and her cross-stitch. She found great joy in her church community and in the beauty of God’s creation.
Judy is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband David Herbert Nordmeyer, by her brothers Kenneth Paul Heckmann (Susan), Don Carl Heckmann (Karen), and Paul W. Heckmann II, by her step-daughter Dana (J.T.) Elmore, and by her grandchildren Arwen Elmore, Linnea Elmore, and Fornie Elmore. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Though we grieve, we do so knowing that Judy has finished the race, kept the faith, and now rests in the eternal peace promised by our Savior (2 Timothy 4:7).
A funeral service celebrating Judy’s victory in Christ will be held on Saturday, 18 April 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at Divine Savior Lutheran Church in Devine, Texas with Pastor Randall Wehmeyer officiating. Sam Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, 21 April at 9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Divine Savior Lutheran Church or to Cru (ministry to college students) in Judy’s name.

Wowser! Devine and Floresville went toe-to-toe throughout the District 29-4A Meet in Somerset last week, and it was an exciting scoreboard to watch as the first legs of the 4x400m Relay got into the blocks with championship repercussions on the line.
Devine was trailing 162-180 when the gun sounded and needed a first place finish along with a no better than sixth place finish by the Tigers to pull out at least a share of the district title.
…and that is what exactly happened!
Devine used all of its “horse-power” to take gold with a final time of 3:25.97, more than 4½ seconds ahead of runner-up Pearsall.
More importantly Floresville slipped all the way to 6th place with a time of 3:35.99, more than 10 long seconds behind the Warhorses.
The Horses 20 points from the win and the Tigers 2 points from their 6th place showing evened the final tally to 182-182 and a share of the District 27-4A Championship.
Although that mile relay winning effort by…LOGIN TO CONTINUE READING at www.devinenewsmembers.com. With only three games left in the District 27-4A season, Devine is looking to make a late push for that fourth and final spot. Sitting at 4-5 with upcoming games against Somerset on April 17, at Pearsall on April 21, and the finale at home against Floresville the Horses need a little help in making it to the UIL Postseason Playoffs.
The Horses dropped an 11-inning, 3-2 marathon-match against Pleasanton to end last week, a game Devine could have used to position themselves firmer in the playoff race.
However after…LOGIN TO CONTINUE READING at www.devinenewsmembers.com. You will get instant access to our full E-edition, and begin getting the newspaper delivered to your home next week for $36 a year in Medina County. Support important local city, county, and school news like this!
