Mustang track competes in Crystal City

The 30-3A District track meet is April 4-5 in Jourdanton.

The Natalia Mustang Track and Field team had their final warm-up last Wednesday in Crystal City. Once again, the boys in blue were up against stiff competition as they were able to finish in 6th out of eight teams with 58 team points. The JV Stangs on the other hand, finished in 3rd as a team.
Natalia will now turn their attention to the 30-3A Track and Field Meet which begins this week in Jourdanton.
“The Crystal City meet was great competition for us right before district,” Coach Jason Reynolds said. “We were tested this week and I feel they competed well.”
Carrizo Springs won the varsity meet with 125 team points as Crystal City won 2nd with 90 and Brackett 3rd with 87.
Diego Zapata got things going for the Mustangs in the 200 M. Dash with a time of 24.18 which was good enough for 4th place. A time of 23.43 won the event.
Donavan Hawkins competed in the 400 M. Dash and finished in 4th place with a time of 54.24. A time of 52.93 won the event.
In the 800 M. Run, Julian Armendariz won 5th place with a time of 2:10.12.
Natalia’s Jared Stallworth had the best luck for the Stangs, as he won 2nd place in the 110 M. Hurdles and also in the 300 M. Hurdles. In the 110, he used a time of 17.31 and in the300, a time of 40.21.
Felix Iniguez, Xavier Vasquez, Stallworth and Zapata ran the 4X100 M. Relay with a time of 46.15 which was good enough for 4th. Cotulla won the event with a time of 45.28.
Vasquez, Marcus Perez, Brad Martin and Iniguez competed in the 4X200 M. Relay where they were able to win 4th place with a time of 1:37.87. Carrizo Springs won the event with a time of 1:34.81.
In the Discus event, Uriel Arellano won 3rd place with a throw of 121’ 10 1/2”.
Natalia’s lone gold medal came in the High Jump where Marcus Perez used a Jump of 5’10” to do so.
“I know our boys are fired up and ready to compete at the district meet,” Reynolds said. “The district meet will be the first time in a few weeks we will be back at full force and we are excited to compete.”
JV Results
Carrizo Springs won the JV Meet with 167 team points followed by Crystal City (166). Natalia was able to win 3rd with 90 points.
In the 400 M. Dash, Coltin Richardson won 2nd with a time of 57.20 as Isaac Duenes won 3rd with a time of 57.93.
Noah Gilkey was able to win 5th in the 800 M. Run thanks to a time of 2:32.87. He also won 4th in the 1600 M. Run with a time of 5:51.77 and finished in 4th in the 3200 M. Run with a time of 12:35.
Natalia placed in two out of three relays. In the4X00 M. Relay, Richardson, Enrique Deloris, Ryan Rico and Adrian Vasquez ran a time of 47.40 was good enough for 2nd place.
The same group of runners captured 2nd in the 4X200 M with a time of 1:40.47.
In the Shot-Put event, Michael Martinez finished in 5th place with a throw of 32’9 1/2”.
Nicholas Vasquez competed in Discus and finished in 3rd place with a throw of 97’ 1/2”.
Natalia won 1st and 2nd in the High Jump. Deposit won the event with a jump of 5’4” as Richardson finished ion 2nd with a jump of the same.
District 30-3A Meet Wednesday and Thursday
Natalia will compete in the 30-3A Meet today, Wednesday April 4th and tomorrow, Thursday April 5th in Jourdanton. Head over to Jourdanton and support the Mustangs.
