On June 23, 2020 Mathias “Matt” Hilburn of Devine, TX passed away in San Antonio unexpectedly at the age of 58. He was born on February 24, 1962, to Eloy and Asencion (Cortinas) Hilburn in Devine, TX.
Matt is survived by his sons, Mathias Jonathan Lopez, Adrian Lopez, and Jeremy Hilburn. He is also survived by his mother; brothers, Eloy Hilburn, Jerry Hilburn and Gary Hilburn; sisters, Rosie Chandler, Dina Hilburn, Sylvia Hilburn, and Marie Hilburn as well as his grandchildren, Adrian Lopez Jr., Andrew Lopez, Isaac Lopez and Joshua Lopez.
He is preceded in death by his father and brothers, Mike Hilburn, Gilbert Hilburn and Joe Hilburn.
Matt was an incredibly loving Grandfather, Father, Son and man of God with his faith evident in all conversations and actions. He taught this to his boys from a young age and continued to remind them any chance he could.
To echo his career in carpentry, he built things such as a playhouse in the backyard for his young boys, bar counters with his son Adrian and even a “haunted house” adventure in his living room for the young kids in the family and neighborhood.
His gifts were thoughtful and always had a deeper meaning. His love for music inspired his sons to have deep lifetime connections with everything from old school hip hop to classic rock. His love of trucks instilled a love of cars of all kinds into his sons that is evident today.
His humor and laugh was absolutely infectious, and he could make you laugh with anything from an animal noise, (typically a monkey) to old movies that may or may not be politically correct.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home, 303 W. College Avenue, Devine, TX. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, 108 S. Washington Dr, Devine, TX. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Devine, TX.
