Garland Main Cooper

Garland Main Cooper (AKA Guy), 66, of Castroville, Texas, passed away suddenly on June 23, 2020 while he was working in Weslaco, Texas.
Guy was the youngest of three children born to Arthur Main and Lois Jean (Rich) Cooper. He was born on November 25, 1953 on a military base in Frankfurt, Germany, but spent most of his life living in Colorado and Texas. Guy married his one-and-only true love, Patsy Cooper, on July 20, 1978 in Westcliffe, Colorado, and they enjoyed forty-three years of inseparable love and devotion. Together they raised seven beautiful children, who have further blessed them with twenty grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. Guy was an incredibly devoted family man, whose legacy will continue to grow and spread with each generation.
Guy was an extremely hard worker and excellent provider for his family. In his younger years, he attended college on a full-ride rodeo scholarship in Alpine, Texas; graduating as an A.I. technician. He went on to become the youngest deputy sheriff in Canon City, Colorado. He and his wife, Pat, worked as outfitters on several big game ranches in Colorado and Texas. Together they also owned and operated a successful sod farm in Lytle, Texas; and he helped one of their sons establish and build a sewer cleaning company in Colorado, where he would proudly introduce himself as a “sewer connoisseur”. Most recently, he enjoyed working for Air Gas for the last seven years delivering dry ice to The Valley.
Guy’s love for hunting and the great outdoors was evident to all who knew him, and he instilled this passion and skill into many of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed working in his shop, where he and his wife would create beautiful, unique western crafts and art.
Guy is survived by his loving wife, Pat; his children, Dena (Tim) Beck, Billy (Judy) Cooper, Tonya (Randy) Varner, Donna (Jason) Bippert, Kevin (Melanie) Cooper, and Jay Lawrence; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his mother, Lois Jean; his sisters, Iris and Becky.
He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur; his son, James; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Tori; and two great-grandchildren, Connor and Brant.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Moye Retreat Center in Castroville, Texas on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at 3:00 p.m.
