Man charged with aggravated assault on a public servant

On August 22, 2018 around 8:00 pm, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office and the Hondo Police Department were attempting to execute search and felony arrest warrants in the 1800 block of 16th St in Hondo.
Officers located the suspect driving and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. A short pursuit ensued and the suspect rammed the deputy’s unit with his vehicle. The suspect continued to flee in his vehicle to a nearby residence in the area of 16th St and Avenue F where he then fled on foot as Officers continued to pursue the suspect. Our Deputy located the suspect and engaged in an altercation. During the struggle, the Deputy fired a round from his department issued service weapon striking the suspect in his abdomen.
The suspect was taken into custody and Airlifted to University Hospital. The suspect is in stable condition. Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant as well as several other charges are pending. Due to the ongoing investigation, no further details will be released at this time.
