Lytle to face off with Natalia in volleyball action Friday

Playing at home against Poth and Jourdanton last week, the Lady Pirates lost both matches but they were well played. Sitting at 1-3 in district and 3-10 overall, the Lady Pirates still have time to turn their season around. This Friday they will play Natalia and then in Cotulla next Tuesday.
In a Pirate battle, Lytle was ready for every ball but Poth found a few holes to score in. “Although the level of competition doesn’t reflect the score, we lost to Poth in three sets at 15-25, 21-25, and 16-25. We are very proud of them! Sometimes wins and losses aren’t what matters but the passion and competitiveness one plays with. We’re coming together strong!” said Coach Denise Cordero.
Elysa Aleman was named Pirate of the Game with 3 aces, 1 kill, 2 assisted blocks, 6 assists, 6 digs. Amelia Martinez 2 digs. Alyssa Montalvo 2 digs. Skye Granato 3 digs. Alyssa Sprenger 4 digs. Marissa Lopez 2 assists, 10 digs. Kaylee Diaz 2 aces, 1 dig. Cameron Hutton 2 aces, 5 kills, 2 assisted blocks, 12 digs, 1 assist. Chelsea Gonzalez 2 aces, 3 kills, 1 assist, 4 digs. Rose Scotello 2 assists, 4 digs, 6 kills.
Friday night against Jourdanton, Lytle was down a player but others stepped up to fill in.
“We had some great moments of hustle but couldn’t pull the win. Our Pirates lost in 3 sets 14-25, 20-25, and 9-25,” said Coach Cordero
Pirates of the Game against Jourdanton was Rose Scotello with 9 kills, 4 assts, 4 did, 1 solo block. Martinez 2 digs. Granato 2 digs. Sprenger 9 digs. Montalvo 2 assists. Gonzalez 2 aces, 3 digs. Diaz 2 aces, 3 kills, 5 digs. Lopez 1 assist, 5 digs, 1 solo block. Aleman 2 aces, 3 kills, 7 assists, 5 digs.
The JV Lady Pirates fell to Poth 11-25 and 17-25 and to Jourdanton 14-25 and 16-25. “The JV team played much better on Friday, but struggled to get serves in,” said Coach Jay Tope.
