XC Lady Pirates 2nd in Bandera; Cortez leads Pirates

Varsity Lady Pirate XC team: Marissa Lopez, Dezmarie Ortega, Mariah Gomez, Sam Mujica, Eisabel Guerrero.

Lytle’s Lady Pirate Cross Country team finished as runner up at the Bulldog Invitational in Bandera last Saturday. The Lady Pirates tallied 88 points, placing them 12-points behind team champion Bandera who had 76 points.
Eisabel Guerrero continued her successful year placing 5th out of the 120 competitors in the varsity girls division. Her 12:55 was just a second or so behind 4th place finisher Airyanna Rodriguez of Devine.
Marissa Lopez garnered a top 10 finish with a 13:09, 8th place showing. Samantha Mujica came in 11th place at 13:13.
Moriah Gomez (20th-13:21) and Dezmarie Ortega (13:54) contributed mightily to their team’s silver medal showing.
Pirate runner Jose Cortez had another strong showing placing 5th overall in the varsity boys division. Cortez ran a 17:52, six seconds behind Tyler Mills of La Vernia. There were 118 runners in this race.
Johnny Rey Alvarez placed 36th with a 19:03, while Luke Estrada was 48th at 19:32.
