JV1 blanks Pearsall 19-0; Henry Ramirez tosses complete game gem

Devine’s JV1 baseball team broke out their bats in a big way Monday in Pearsall, opening their season with a 19-0 thrashing of the Mavericks. Henry Ramirez toed the rubber for the Warhorses, throwing a complete-game shutout victory while only giving up three hits and striking out four Pearsall batters. He also did not allow a walk in the dominating performance.
The Horses scored multiple runs in every inning except the third when only one run crossed the plate. Devine put up two in the first, six in the second, one in the third, seven in the fourth, and three in the fifth and final inning of play.
Jacob Rodriguez went four-for-five at the plate to lead Devine, driving in two runs and scoring three of his own. Jack Schneider, Sumner Leggitt, Korbin Campbell, Noah Macias, and Ramirez all collected three hits each and Jaiden Alvarez and Kolt Hackebeil also each got a hit.
Two RBIs apiece went to Alvarez, Rodriguez, Ramirez, Leggitt, and Matthew Gomez while Schneider, Campbell, and Hackebeil each drove in a run.
Macias led Devine with four runs scored, Alvarez and Rodriguez each scored three times, Ramirez, and Hackebeil scored twice each, and Schneider, Gomez, Leggitt, and Ayden Leal combined for the four remaining runs in the 19-run output.
After Schneider got the scoreboard rolling in the first inning with a ground-out RBI, Hackebeil, Alvarez, Rodriguez, Schneider, Ramirez, and Gomez continued the onslaught in the fourth inning with seven RBI’s between them.
In 33 official plate appearances, Devine collected 21 hits and 10 base on balls compared to only fanning twice. The Horses also stole 33 bases as Macias tallied four thefts and Alvarez, Schneider, and Leggitt each had three.
