Devine’s JV Warhorses kept their undefeated season rolling by defeating the visiting Central Catholic Buttons 20-14 last Thursday night at Warhorse Stadium. An opening-drive touchdown by Demetrios Monreal and two more by Isaiah Oropeza gave the Warhorses all the points they would need as they ran their record to 4-0.
Defensive coordinator Scott Taylor, “It was a tough fought game that included the defense scoring its sixth touchdown of the year via Isaiah Oropeza’s 35-yard interception return. Isaiah’s score gave us a 14-0 cushion and we were able to maintain that lead for most of the game. Our defense also created two additional turnovers that stopped potential Button scoring opportunities. It was a great win versus a good team.”
Running back Michael Polanco, wide receiver Jose Espinosa, and tight end Tristan Kannard stood out offensively.
Scoring recap:
• 1st quarter-5:42-Demetrios Monreal 38-yard run (Donavon Camacho 2-point run), 8-0.
• 1st quarter-1:40-Isaiah Oropeza 53-yard interception return (2-point failed), 14-0.
• 2nd quarter Central Catholic touchdown (extra point no good), 14-6.
