District play is underway for both the JV1 and JV2 Lady Mustangs.
JV1 Lady Mustangs
The JV1 Lady Mustangs opened district with a win over Dilley and then a loss to Jourdanton last week. With Laredo on October 1st, Lytle October 8th, and Cotulla on October 11th, the Lady Mustangs will have to work hard to make this a winning season.
Coach Tara Cortinas and her team fell in the first set against Dilley 22-25 and fought hard to win the second set 27-25. The fight in the third set between the teams was all out and it was Natalia that came out on top at 15-13 for the 2-1 win over the Lady Wolves. McAiyla Ruiz had 2 aces and 5 kills. Briana Paredes 4 killls. Isabella Martinez 7 assists. Dominique Banda 5 assists. Genesis Perez 9 digs. Meg Martinez 7 digs.
In the game against Jourdanton, the Lady Mustangs lost both sets 16-25 and 20-25, but Jourdanton had to work hard for the win against Natalia serving power. Ruiz 7 aces, I. Martinez 5 aces, 3 assists. Parker Crowther 2 kills. Perez 5 digs. Banda 4 digs.
JV2 Lady Mustangs
Natalia’s JV2 team had a hard week last week with two losses in their first two district games. Facing Dilley on September 16th, the Lady Mustangs won the first set 25-13 but then lost the second set 12-25. They almost had the final set but the Wolves took it in the end at 15-12. Destiny Vasquez 5 aces. Jocelyn Garcia 4 aces. Rebekah Saenz 2 kills. Angelina Dunes 3 assists. Myra Albardo 2 assists.
The JV2 team had to work hard against the Jourdanton Freshman team but lost 16-25 and 20-25. Garcia 2 kills. Vasquez 3 aces. Jalesca Schorch 5 digs.
The JV2 team will head to Laredo on October 1st and Lytle October 8th.
