Horses look to hog-tie Javelinas in district finale

Devine looks to close out its District 14-4A DII schedule with a victory at Warhorse Stadium Friday night against visiting Crystal City. The Horses are in sole possession of second-place in district, one game behind undefeated Carrizo Springs as each team looks toward state playoffs next week.
Crystal City has had a rough go of this season as they sit at 1-7 overall and 1-2 in District 15-4A DII. The Javelinas sole victory was a 28-7 win against Pearsall on October 15.
The Javelinas have scored 70 total points on the season for an average of a little less than nine-points a game. In contrast, Devine scored 66 points in their game against Pearsall last week.
Gomez’s take
Head Coach Paul Gomez provided insight to this week’s matchup saying, “Crystal City has been struggling this year but they have developed a great winning tradition there and I know we will get their best effort. They have nothing to lose so we will get the book thrown at us. We just have to be sound and play hard. I always tell the boys that I only worry about us because that is something that we can control. We can control our effort, our attention to detail, and our attitude. If we can handle those in a positive manner then I don’t care who we play. I’m excited for the opportunity to get better and like I told our boys three weeks ago, every game is a playoff game from now on. That’s how we have to approach each week.”
