Devine gets its final warm-up for District 14-4A competition as they travel to San Antonio Davenport to take on the high octane Wolves Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm.

The Warhorses are 3-2 entering the contest after their come-from-behind 28-24 thrilling victory over Uvalde last Friday. Davenport is 2-2 after already having their open week.
Davenport defeated Victoria West 60-28 and Lockhart 65-38 in their two victories while falling to Kerrville Tivy 28-10 and to San Antonio Pieper 34-31 in their two setbacks.
Gomez’s take
Devine Head Coach Paul Gomez provided his weekly assessment of the challenge facing his team.
“Davenport is definitely a good team. They are a growing school that will be at least 5A next year and probable 5A Div1. That’s what their head coach told me last year.
They are a fast, no-huddle offense. They spread out defenses and they work fast. They will try to tire us down, and get us confused and then try to get big plays if they can catch us off guard. Many of their touchdowns this year have been on big plays.
Their QB (Triston Hamlin) is back from last year and is a great passer and very mobile (49 of 74 for 891 yards, 12 TD, 2 INT). He can scramble and run. He is a tall player with great passing skills.
They have very good receivers led by their tight end (#1, Kyler Payne 16 receptions for 430 yards and 5 TDs) who has improved so much from last year. He is a tough guy to defend because he is about 6’4 and can run past defenders.
They have a running back that runs tough (Barrett Fallon, 42 carries for 357 yards and 6 TDs). He will try to run over defenders but has the speed to run around them as well.
Defensively, they have some big quick defensive lineman and very athletic linebackers. Davenport will definitely be the best defense that we have faced.
I’m excited for our boys. I’m excited for this challenge. We are going to get to work this week and preach effort every snap.
The stadium is an awesome stadium and I know we will have a playoff atmosphere. We will definitely need our fans there for support!!”
