Freshman Arabians prove themselves in Pearsall

The Freshman Arabians opened their season this past weekend in the Pearsall Freshman/JV Tournament. They lost their first game but bounced back to win their other two games.
Taking on the Bandera Bulldogs, the Arabians were excited to finally get onto the court after all of their practicing. “Towards the end of the game we relaxed a little too much on defense which allowed them back into the game to tie things up and send us into overtime. Unfortunately, things didn’t end our way but I think it was a great learning experience for both the girls and myself,” said Coach Kara Stacy. They lost to Bandera 20-21.

Beating Pleasanton 30-13 was a huge win for the Arabians being such a small team. They had to face a team that could sub fresh players off the bench. Every player gave it their all for the 30-13 victory over the Eagles. “With only six players to play in this game the girls really stepped up to the challenge. Having to switch things up on both defense and offense, the girls handled it really well. Even with just six players they played hard the entire time and were able to come out on top,” added Coach Stacy.
Lawler 6 points. Gutierrez 10 points. Saunders 5 points. Guarjardo 2 points. Parker 4 points.
With no time to rest, the Freshman team took on Carrizo Springs. “I knew two games back to back with just our six was going to be tough. Between a small amount of rest time in between games and injuries it was going to be a challenge. We came out a little fatigued in the beginning but once we got things going and started doing the little things right, there was no stopping us. This win made us consolation champs. Overall, I’m proud of the girls and what we accomplished this past weekend. We learned a lot and overcame some adversity to win 32-20,” said the proud Coach Stacy.

The Freshman Arabians took on La Vernia and Navarro right before the Thanksgiving break and will take on Pieper HS on November 30th and Laredo Cigarroa on December 14th.
