Freshman Arabians beat the Billies

In their last game before the holiday break, the Freshman Arabians took down the strong Fredericksburg Billies in Devine. Winning 31-24, the Arabians are now 4-3 for the season and will open district January 7th against Brooks Academy after playing Pearsall on December 28th and Crystal City on December 30th.
“I am proud of the girls’ effort in this game. We hadn’t played in over a week and this was our first-time playing man to man the entire game. We struggled a bit with our communication on defense in the beginning. By the end, we slowly started to figure things out and were able to make stops. Offensively, the girls impressed me. Fredericksburg tried to switch things up defensively to throw us off. However, when we slowed down, the girls did a great job reading the defense and seeing different options. We were able to hit our post in the middle quite a bit, we penetrated inside and knocked down some shots. This was key to this game as it allowed us to come out on top,” said Coach Kara Stacy.
Abby Saunders scored 8 points, Jilliyn Guarjardo 4, Sarah Stodal 2, Savanah Parker 2, and Brooke Thompson scored 18. Lynn Lawler and Hannah Brummage were aggressive on defense. Q1 6-5, Q2 14-11, Q3 24-17, Q4 31-24.
This is a strong freshman team that has a great chance of winning district under Coach Stacy and Coach Jim Sessions.
