Dr. Laura Hansen guest speaker at Current Events Club meeting

There was a “doctor in the house” at the March 12th meeting of the Current Events Club in the home of Linda Kreinhop. Doctor Laura Hansen was the guest speaker. The doctor was introduced by Christine Garcia who is an administrator at the Medina Healthcare System.
Dr. Hansen, who graduated from the Family Medicine program at A & M, specializes in Family Medicine with Obstetrics. Currently, Dr. Hansen is at the Medical Clinic in Devine four days a week. She reminisced with club members about her journey to becoming a doctor which started at the age of 4. She answered questions from the group of which some were her patients.
Club members received tickets and planned their annual theater outing to “The Million Dollar Quartet” at the Public Theater in San Antonio.
Plans for the Senior Ice Cream Social were finalized. The social is to honor Devine High School seniors and has a decades-long tradition. Martha and George Wall will host the event on April 8th.
The club voted to join the Devine Chamber of Commerce.
Once again the club will award two $1000 scholarships to Devine High School Seniors. The scholarship committee will select the recipients who will be awarded at the Scholarship Program at the high school on May 5th.
Barbara Moore was welcomed as a new club member.
The following officers were elected for the 2019-2020 club year: Sarah McAlpin, president; Linda Kreinhop, first vice-president; Kay Shultz, second vice-president; Dinah Argo, treasurer; Cherri Budington, recording secretary; and Laura Sinclair, corresponding secretary.
