Dorothy Lou Deckert Haby, age 84, entered eternal rest on May 10, 2018 at her home in Castroville. She was born April 3, 1934 in San Antonio, to parents, Stephen Albert Deckert and Dorothea Sarah Foster Deckert.
Dorothy grew up in San Antonio, graduating from Ursuline Academy in 1952. Shortly after that, on February 14, 1953, she married Frank James “Jimmy” Haby at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church. Dorothy and Jimmy were married for almost fifty-nine years at the time of Jimmy’s passing on January 23, 2012. Their five children were all born at the Castroville Hospital.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Frank “Jimmy” Haby.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Patti (Art) Haby of Rio Medina, Kathy (Clyde) Muennink of Hondo, Steven (Myra) Haby of Castroville, Carol (Bill ) Mullaley of Mico, and Edward (Lori) Haby of Castroville; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Rustin (Kim) Haby, Janna (Todd) Heilig, Tammy (J.C.) Pilcher, Jason (Jackie) Grohman, Jessica Diann Haby, David (Victoria) Mullaley, Jennifer (Jason) Konegni, Bryce Haby, Logan Haby, Tanner Haby and Jake (Caylie) Muennink; 16 great-grandchildren, Hailey and Morgan Haby, Brittani and Ty Wiley, Joshua, Kylie and Zachary Heilig, Garrett Leggitt, Savannah Grohman, Jackie, Bryona, Reagan, Liam, Aaron and Mina Mullaley, Juliette Konegni; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Haedyn, Brantley and Rylin Wiley; as well as numerous other relatives.
Visitation was held Tuesday, May 15, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Tondre-Guinn Funeral Home, with the Holy Rosary recited at 7:00 pm.
Mass of the Resurrection will be Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Louis Catholic Church. Interment will follow at St. Louis Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials may be made in Dorothy’s memory to the American Heart Association or to the charity of your choice.
