Devine’s JV Arabians and Warhorses opened their season at Devine Municipal Golf Course last Wednesday in Devine’s Pre-Season Invitational. The Arabians placed second overall with 50 points, just behind team champion Pleasanton who scored 36. Carrizo Springs was third (51) and Harper came in fourth (73).
Allison Dugosh paced the Arabians coming in fourth place overall with a time of 16:10, narrowly edging out fellow teammates Shelby Joslin (6th/16:12) and Corinne Fowler (7th/16:13). Rebecca Mares (13th/17:18) and Trinity Black (20th/18:27) finished out the scoring.
Matthew Madrid’s 21:51 earned him 7th place while Ryan Leal’s 22:27 placed him 9th. Kristofer Aguirre (10th/24:05), Jeremy Casillas (11th/24:40), Owen Fowler (24:44), and Arturo Diaz (25:20) rounded out the Warhorses scoring.
Pearsall
The Devine JV Warhorses and Arabians got the first two meets of the season under their belts, gaining valuable experience along the way. The Arabians finished third place as a team accumulating 74 points to champion Pearsall’s 39 and runner-up Lytle’s 65.
The Warhorses did not get a true team total as only the top 30 runners were recorded on race day and, due to heat concerns, the race was shortened to only two miles instead of the normal three.
Thomas Mendoza led the way with a 13:39 followed by Jeremy Casillas’ 15:41. Owen Fowler (15:56), Kristofer Aguirre (16:07), and Arturo Diaz (16:03) also competed for Devine.

All of Devine’s Cross Country teams have Labor Day Weekend off before resuming their season at Hondo on Saturday, September 7. A complete schedule for that date will be in next week’s Devine News.
