Dean Bates Memorial Golf Tournament a huge success

Devine Municipal Golf Course hosted 96 players last Saturday in the 8th Annual Dean Bates Memorial Golf Tournament. Sixteen teams comprised of six players each enjoyed camaraderie and shared many old stories of former Warhorse Head Football Coach Dean Bates who passed away in 2012 after a very successful coaching career.

The team of Lyndell Newman, Bill Eckert, Jerry Dykowski, Willie Shelton, Kay St. Don, and Don Darnell placed 2nd with a score of 14 under par.

BK Bates and Chad Quisenberry expressed special gratitude to Anne and Jerry Dykowski whose prize money contribution allowed for an additional scholarship to be presented to a deserving student. Circle C Services, Shannon Rangel of Morales Realty, and Brown Chevrolet donated prize money for the top teams in the tournament.

South Texas Trophies donated hole sponsorship signs that adorned each of the tee boxes. Ruben and Lisa at Devine Municipal golf course did an outstanding job hosting.

Chris Alvarez, Dallas Taylor, Chris Rosa, Taylor Wilson, John Gallardo, and Chris Laughinghouse were 11 under par to take 3rd place.

The “Beverage Babes” combination of Scott Herring, Butch Cook, Jim Sessions, Lewis Stroud, and Wes Korczynski kept everyone in good spirits and well-hydrated thanks to a very generous donation by Matt Korczynski of Ski’s Liquor.
First place went to Matt Martinez, Abel Martinez, Chad Saunders, Kristen Muennink, Swanson Smith, and Susie Smith who shot 15 under par. Second place was Lyndell Newman, Bill Eckert, Jerry Dykowski, Willie Shelton, Kay St. Don, and Don Darnell who were 14 under. Third place finishers were Chris Alvarez, Dallas Taylor, Chris Rosa, Taylor Wilson, John Gallardo, and Chris Laughinghouse who were 11 under.
