Danial Ray Campsey, age 65, of Austin, TX, went to be with our Lord April 29, 2021. Danny, as he was lovingly known by his family and friends, was the 9th child of 12 children born to Arthur and Mary Campsey of Devine, TX. He married the love of his life and long-time partner of 30 years, Mark Waugh on July 1, 2017 at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City. In their years together they raised Mark’s two daughters, Alexandra and Hayden Waugh, while working to build and manage a very successful business in the Austin area.
Danny was born on February 7, 1956 in Hondo, TX. He grew up working hard with his fellow siblings on the family farm and business. In school he excelled in academics, gave his all-in sports and led his class as their president. Danny gave 110% in all that he did. This hard work ethic carried on throughout his life. After graduating high school in 1974, he moved to San Marcos, TX to attend, what is now, Texas State University. Both at home and in college, Danny continued to be loved by many because of his big heart, leadership and love for family, friends, and community. In college he excelled academically, was a leader on campus as a residential assistant, and was admired for his great dance skills when he went out with friends.
After graduation from college in 1978, with a degree in business, he began a career in banking. Danny worked for many years for Frost Bank, Gill Savings and Guaranty Federal Savings in Austin where he met Mark Waugh in 1990. They began their life together raising the girls and building their successful business in real estate investments. Danny continued to carry on with his hard work ethic as vice president of Waugh Properties from 1992 to 2014 and president of Haylex Partners, Ltd from 2014 to current. Danny loved what he did, and you could say that work and family were his hobbies. He and Mark also loved to travel. They often visited vacation homes they had built together throughout the years in various locations. Danny’s life was about what he could do for others, and that is a fact. With him it was always, “What can I do for you?”.
Danny is survived by Husband, Mark Waugh, daughters Alexandra and Hayden Waugh of Austin, TX, brothers Ronald Lee Campsey and wife Shana of East Quague, NY, John Louis Campsey and wife Theresa of Huntington Station, NY, Thomas Wayne Campsey and wife Karen of San Antonio, TX, Richard Dale Campsey of Devine, TX, Robert James Campsey of Devine, TX, Arthur Lee Campsey and wife Jeanene Campsey of San Antonio, TX, and William Dean Campsey of Devine, TX; sisters Clara Marie Carroll and husband Charles of Buda, TX, and Mary Susan Bourcier and husband Tim of Devine, TX; sister-in-law Vicki Eidman and husband Mark of Austin, TX and brother-in-law T.C. Waugh and wife Giselle of Austin, TX, sister-in-law Sherry Campsey of Devine, TX, as well as numerous nieces, and nephews.
Danny is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Mary Campsey of Devine, TX, sister Becky Campsey Favor of Calallen, TX, brother Donald Erwin “Butch” Campsey of Devine, TX, mother-in-law Mary Waugh of Austin, TX, father-in-law John Waugh of Los Angeles, CA, sister-in-laws Carol Brown Campsey and Debi Crouch Campsey both of Devine, TX, brother-in-law Jim Favor of Calallen, TX and nephews John and Robert Campsey of Devine, TX and niece Christie Campsey Sollock of Highlands, TX.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday May 8th, starting with a Rosary at 12:00PM, noon, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00PM, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Devine, TX. The family has requested memorial gifts be made to HANK, which stands for “Helping Abused and Neglected Kids” or the St. Joseph Catholic Church Devine Prayer Garden. Donations for the St. Joseph Prayer Garden can be made out to St. Joseph Catholic Church with a special request to be applied to funding the garden. A special thanks to all family and friends in the communities of Austin, Devine and other areas for their kindness and heartfelt condolences, food, flowers and gifts in remembrance of Danny. They thank all who have shared what his life meant to them. It is overwhelming, and brings great joy and healing, to see the outpouring of love for Danny and how he touched the lives of so many in his time here on earth.
