Current Events Club holds meeting, participates in Fall Festival

Barbara Moore, Dinah Argo, and Martha Wall were the co-hostesses for the Current Events Club meeting Nov. 12.

The club’s meeting was held in the home of Dinah Argo on Tuesday, November 12th. Dinah’s co-hostesses Martha Wall and Barbara Moore out did themselves with an amazing spread of goodies. Members were happy to be taste tasters for Barbara’s many desserts. No one left hungry.
Dr George Horvath was our guest speaker. What an amazing life he has had! He shared his life from fleeing Hungary in the 50’s, conducting geological research in the Antarctic and the Indian Oceans, working in various Government jobs to being a Dallas Police Officer. You can find George these days bagging at the Hospice Thrift Store with his wife Alma. He is truly an inspiration as to how to achieve the American dream.
Members braved the chill and participated in the Cactus Festival Parade throwing candy and Mardi Gras beads. “Mardi Gras Magic” is the theme for our Annual Charity Gala to be held at the George S. Woods Community Center, February 22, 2020. The gala gets bigger and better each year and allows us to continue our support of local non-profits. SAVE THE DATE.
A report on the Deer Corn drawing was given by Cherri Buddington. A big thank you to Walmart, Las Palmas, Security State Bank, and Hondo National Bank for allowing us to sell raffle tickets. The corn raffle would not be possible without the support of W.O.G. In addition to raffle sales, the club received $1000.00 grant from Walmart.
The budget was corrected to reflect that two $1,000.00 scholarships will be given to two deserving seniors. Members also approved $200.00 to be given to the Medina Family Life Center. We will also donate $500.00 to HANK prior to the holidays as well as candy for The Children’s Christmas Party.
Our December 10th meeting will be held at the home of Alma Horvath, 135 CR 8111. We will enjoy a potluck as well as members bringing unwrapped children’s gifts in support of Medina County Brown Santa.
We are happy to have our new members Kathleen Zadik and Joyce Bennett. If you would like to be a part of our club and make a difference in your community, contact any member or Linda Kreinhop, 830-665-6377, Sarah McAlpin, 907-230-2337.
