CR 765 work finished

Over the last two weeks (nothing last week) we got right at 3.8 inches of rain towards Black Creek (11 inches so far this year). Then it got hotter’n whatchacallit and it all dried up. Still haven’t had to enact a Burn Ban yet.
Missed the last Commissioners Court meeting cause we were outta state with my daughter and her husband for a little time off and time away. According to the Agenda, there weren’t a lotta stuff to be concerned with. Haven’t gotten into Budget yet…so I figured I’d throw some numbers out.
We finished paving CR 765 a couple weeks ago. It cost you $9,125 to have the existing roadway milled up and ready for base material. After we trucked approximately 10,800,000 pounds of base material to the site, we put 1400 gallons of primer (mixed into approximately 30,000 gallons of water) on it so that the tack oil would be more effective. There were 30,000 gallons of tack oil spread out so that we could cover it with 1,800,000 pounds of coated rock (2 layers) that would serve as a driving surface. After materials and freight, the cost of the road came to about $36,990 per mile (materials only) for the 3.89 miles of road that was repaved.
So $143,893.38 later, folks got a new road to drive 80 MPH on. The very next day, there were 18 wheel trucks hauling equipment down it before the oil dried. I did not count the labor and equipment cause this is already in my Budget. Still got a little left over material (not much) that we are gonna use on other projects.
I’m gonna rant a little if KK lets me….There is only one race…the Human race. I don’t recall checking the “white male” box before I was born. We are all created equal. Racism is a learned behavior. You can raise a child to believe that the grass is blue if that’s all he is ever told.
The policeman was wrong, got charged and arrested and is now waiting trial. This is the normal process. During my 26 years as a policeman, once the handcuffs were on, the fight was over. Even after literally fighting for my life (there were no holds barred) once the crook was handcuffed, the activity ended. What followed this event up north is best described as anarchy.
With the spineless governing bodies leaning toward disbanding police departments because of a couple of bad cops and away from defending the good cops…..no wonder those eligible for retirement are leaving the profession and some are taking early retirement. Fortunately, you never really quit being a policeman….you carry the training, the outlook, the demeanor and the memories, both good and bad, to the grave.
We are hearing nothing from those worthless Castro twins in San Antonio or the so called Democratic leadership in Washington DC condemning the actions of the “protestors” or their organizers…just more blame heaped on President Trump. I do believe now more than ever, we need term limits in all government positions at all levels. Just try to get this approved by the folks who have made a career out of politics. I’m done in 2 years, 6 months and 20 days.
If you have not read the Texas Penal Code recently, read sections 9.41 and 9.42 under the title “Justification Excluding Criminal Responsibility”. This is one thing that the House of Representatives is looking to eliminate nationwide in their new Bill and when opposed by the Senate, they will be called everything but human beings. End of rant…
We are having an impromptu Open House this Thursday, June 11th and would like to welcome visitors to our new Yard located in the old TxDOT building (1340 SH 173 N) between the Vet Clinic and Morales Feed Store. We will be open from 8 AM until 4:30 PM and invite folks to stop by and look. No masks required….and if you see Mike Schott there, don’t be scared, that’s the mask what God gave him.
